Temple Building
Temple Building to be true
No higher mission is our goal
Then to build the body, mind, and spirit temple

Hello and Welcome, Brothers and Sisters in the faith. What you are reading is the first of many in a series of newsletters that will come unto you by the grace and mercy of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The goal and purpose of these news letters are to educate you on the topic of health as it is in Christ, and give practical information on little things that you can do for the betterment of your health.
The topic which we will be discussing today will be on the lost art of mastication. Mastication simply means “to chew”. You may be asking yourself “what does chewing food have to do with my health?” Well I am glad that you asked. In fact, mastication has much more to do with your health than you think. For example, did you know that a thorough mastication of your food is both good for your teeth and your stomach?[1] A thorough mastication food is good for your teeth because it gives them a “workout” and is good for your gums because it gives them a “massage” as you chew. This “workout” to the teeth and “massage” to the gums will only take place as you chew your food slowly and thoroughly. This is a necessary process in order for the saliva to mix properly with the food and so that digestion can begin[2]. As the food is being chewed the digestive juices begin to flow in preparation to further breakdown the foods being eaten.
You won’t have to worry about not having enough saliva to mix the food with. At the mere sight and smell of food (at your regularly scheduled meal); the salivary glands will begin to produce the saliva, and will continue to do so all the way through your meal.[3] In addition to this, “Eating more slowly gives your body a chance to tell your mind that it’s full, so that you stop eating before you go overboard”.[4] This is good news for those of us who are trying to lose a few pounds/trim down. The Bible says that ”your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost”[5]; let us therefore count the cost in building this temple by taking good care of our health, even in the little things. May the Lord’s grace and love abide in your hearts, as we draw nearer to Him every moment of every day.

Act 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Are we to work with God in saving souls? (1 Corinthians 3:9)

“Ye shall be witnesses unto Me”
Love in the Lot
by Sister Trudy
Brothers and Sisters,
One evening, we went to Worcester, Massachusetts to canvass. We stepped in a grocery store parking lot to work. I noted a young lady sitting on the passenger side of a car with her baby in the back seat. They were waiting for the driver to come out of the store. Her window was rolled up to about 11/2 inches from the top and I told her about the megabooks one at a time as I slid them through the window opening. She listened and looked through each book interestedly. She finally had four books stacked on her lap: “The Storybook”, “Seven Secrets Cookbook”, “He Taught Love”, and “The Great Controversy.”
I asked which books she thought would best help her and her family. She looked up and said, “All of them”. I explained that the books were left on a donation basis and gave her the donation values. “I don’t have money,” she replied sadly, “I wish I did. I like ‘em all. If I had money, I’d get ‘em. You don’t know what I’m goin’ through right now.” I explained that I understood, but then found later that she wasn’t just using finances as an excuse to turn down the books. Somehow I wanted to know which of the books were her favorite choices so I asked her which ones she liked most. She spread them out on her lap and slowly picked out “He Taught Love” and “The Great Controversy.” “Do you have anything that you could give as a donation,” I asked her. She started searching around the car for cash, but finally sat back in her seat and sighed, “I thought I at least had a dollar and I see I don’t even have that.” Tears flowed as she exclaimed, “I want these, but I don’t have money. I don’t even have anywhere for me and my child to go. I’ve got this child and I don’t know how to care of her.” She cried and cried. I asked her to do me a favor and pass me “The Storybook” and “Seven Secrets Cookbook”. When she did this, I asked her to make sure you read the other two.
This young lady stared at me and cried some more. “I can’t believe you came to me at this time,” she kept saying. I told her that I wish I could give her a big hug. She pushed the car door open saying, “I’m coming.” She hugged me tightly, still crying. I told her that the books she had were very important truths just for her. “Do you believe in Jesus?” I asked her. She hesitated, but then said, “Yes, but sometimes I just pray to a ‘higher power’.” I asked if we could pray, as her friend returned to the car, but she appeared nervous at his presence and replied that she couldn’t pray then. I left her a number to be reached in her new books and she thanked me. This was “the best sale” of the day. God poured out his blessing all the more in that parking lot that evening. Books went out, contacts were made, and bible studies were signed up to begin. People need the Lord and the Lord needs people to reach out and touch people from Him.
God Still Cares For You
By: Brother Manny Ortega
Last year, I was working with a ministry as a bible worker for a local church in Connecticut. On my way to church service that Sabbath Morning, I saw a man who said hello to me and I responded in the same manner. I felt impressed to give him a flyer to the revival that the church was having, but I had to wait for the sermon to be over since I was designated to remain at the church. Immediately after service, I grabbed some flyers and tried to find the man I had seen earlier, but he was nowhere in sight. I was a bit disappointed that he wasn’t there, but I decided to make the best of it. I prayed a silent prayer: “Lord, give me a testimony”. I was in a very bad neighborhood and I was down to my last flyer when suddenly a drunken gentleman called out, “Hey you, you got a B.A. or B.S. or something like that?” He must have thought I was a professional therapist based on the suit I was wearing. I calmly replied that I did not have a degree. “Can you help this lady,” he said, “she’s messed up.” He pointed to a woman in her late thirties who was sitting in a hunch over position. I slowly went toward her and noticed that she was crying because they were verbally abusing her. I asked her what was the matter, but at the moment she spoke, there was a scent of alcohol on her breath. She was in distress although she was a bit intoxicated. She told me that she was once sober for a year and had been to a rehab program. Unfortunately, she was unable to find work and in her frustrations, she went back to drinking again. At the place where she was, Donna was selling her body to make money for more cocaine. Her only identification, a passport, was stolen and as well as her food stamps. Then, she cried more deeply and said she wanted to end her life. She kept saying, “I’m done, I done, I don’t want to live.” I honestly didn’t know what do, except pray. I tried to help her and prayed with her. She felt God had forgotten her. I told her about Jesus and how He understands our pain. This seemed to calm her so I spoke to her about Jesus’ trials, abandonment, and his betrayal.
Meanwhile, Sister A, the team leader, had been waiting for me in the church parking lot for almost two hours, trying to contact me. However, since I was trying to comfort her, I was not able to reply right away. Finally, after she had calmed down a bit and I finally called Sister A and explained what had happen? She didn’t know if I was held hostage and then she called the pastor, who told her to call the police. Our phones were not available to make emergency calls so we had the pastor call a gentleman from the church named Brother W. He knew how to deal with these types of situations and he grew up in that very neighborhood. They saw me on the corner of the street and I explained the situation to them and together we prayed and went to walk over to the house where the lady and the drunken men were. Brother W, with his street smarts, distracted them, while Alpha went to comfort her and tried to convince her to live and assured her that Jesus loved her. After Brother W came back, he explained that she was homeless and had stayed with those men. She barely knew them and she had nowhere to go. Brother W took her to get some food and then we saw her later that night. She had calmed down a bit and the pastor went to talk to her, encouraging that she was not without hope, and even prayed with her. After the meeting, Brother W took her to a motel where she stayed for the night. I was told that if left alone that she probably would have ended her life.
The next day, Sister A and I went to the motel to see her again. She was well rested and much calmer than before. We took her to a goodwill store and since it was cold they bought her a coat, and some other things that she needed. Then we took her back to the motel. She said that she wanted to go to a shelter where she would be safe. She didn’t have a phone, but Sister A gave the woman her cell phone number and then we hugged her and said goodbye. “Thank you for helping me,” she said as she hugged me, “you’ll be seeing me in church.” Unfortunately, we never heard from her as of yet, but we’re praying and hoping that she’ll call someday. However, Sister A assured me that we had done all we could and that from then on, what she would do would be her own choice. We pray that the choice will be the right one and that one day we’ll be able to meet her again. If not here on this earth, then hopefully Donna will be in heaven when all of us will be reunited at the feet of Jesus. Please keep Donna in your prayers that wherever she may be that she can always remember that Jesus understands and that she may cast all her worries upon him. Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you (1 Peter 5:7).
